BONFIRE night lovers have been told to wrap up warm as they brace for a -3C deep freeze TONIGHT – but skies will be clear.
And the cold will only be made worse by chilly 80mph gusts set to sweep in across the country throughout the weekend.
The temperature will feel like a bone-chilling -3C in Brighton on the south coast today – with a marginally better -2 in Peterborough, Manchester and Birmingham.
But the sky will stay bright and clear tonight – ideal conditions for fireworks to light up the sky on Bonfire night.
Aidan McGovern of the Met Office said: “By Friday morning, in sheltered inland parts out of the wind, there’ll be a fairly widespread frost, with temperatures in the south as low as -3C.
“Friday is looking like another largely fine day. There’s plenty of sun around, particularly in the south.
“For Bonfire Night, most places are looking dry.
“It will be cloudier for the north and the west, with a few outbreaks of light rain, but clear and chilly elsewhere, so fine viewing conditions for fireworks.”

But setting off fireworks should be a Friday night-only activity – with chilly winds sweeping in throughout Saturday.
A yellow weather warning for wind is in place across Northern Scotland from 8pm on Saturday to 5pm on Sunday.
Forecaster Matthew Box told the Mirror: “It will be particularly windy for parts of Scotland during Saturday evening and overnight, when we could see gusts of up to 80mph.
“So if there are any late bonfire nights that someone is having over the weekend, on the 6th, that might obviously affect people’s plans.”
“Something to be aware of, especially for those areas the warning is out for.”
“Heavy and persistent” rain is also set to sweep in over the weekend – with western Scotland most likely to be hit hard, Aidan said.
SUB-ZERO FREEZE
“There’ll be 80mm over some exposed hills,” he added.
“And it turns increasingly windy across western Scotland in particular.
“Northern Scotland will also be prone to gales on Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday.
“Those gales could prove disruptive across some exposed parts.”
After a mild October, the sudden drop in temperatures has come as a shock – but it’s come with one fantastic upside for people in Scotland and the Lake District.
The Northern Lights lit up the skies from 10pm on Wednesday night, with thousands heading outside to marvel at the phenomenon.
